Bogs are ecologically important. Like all wetlands, bogs provide ecosystem services such as storing water and increasing biodiversity. Bogs often contain unusual communities of plants that have adapted to thrive in low-nutrient, acidic conditions. The flora of bogs can also be beautiful, as showcased in Susan Vickery’s photos.
