A style sheet is an example page/post that shows how your great and powerful design god, me, has decided that things should be formatted. You all realize I’m being silly and kidding, right? Italics within the guide are my notes. Which kind of messes up your seeing how a page should look at a glance, but I think it’s less confusing than a whole bunch of notes at the end. But what do I know? Oh right, I am the design god!

below is a byline for media posts, this goes below the main headline, on those posts only, or if its an article written by a contributor.

This is a tagline, many of the media articles I’ve inserted have one. use H5

Here is just a regular parargraph. Don’t go crazy with inline styles and bold and italics and all that stuff. It gets annoying and makes the page hard to scan. Be very sparing on bolding out something for emphasis. A good rule of thumb for writing for the web is short paragraphs. Make paragraphs a lot more than typical writing would call for. It makes it much easier to scan the page in chunks of thoughts, sound bytes if you will.

A Page Headline is H1

Speaking of ‘sound bytes,’ use bullet points when you can. Like Trump, most people don’t like to read a lot of text. They want to grab the gist in a couple quick points.

  • pull quotes are good for pulling out a really strong point in a long article
  • on occasion bolding is permissible but don’t go nuts
  • follow all usual rules on punctuation, quotes, titles, etc.
  • am I a clever witty composer of instructions?
  • or am I the best ever witty composer of instructions?

Sometimes You Need Subheads. This is H2

And This Is Heading H3

And Usually There Will Be A Couple Like This H6

Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.

Here is my favorite quotation, the default style is determined by the code, I may redesign it, but use the insert quote button in the insert new block drop down. BTW this new editor is great for layout options, but really clunky and slow for formatting. You can switch to the old basic text editor! I will tell you how if you’re nice to me.

Love like a shadow flies when substance love pursues,
pursuing that that flies, and flying what pursues.

—William Shakespeare (you knew that right?)

Here is more text with a pull quote which is different than the plain quote above. If you want learn how to code web sites, I would explain how they are formatted in the hidden secret code, but you’re not going to do that today are you? So I’ll just ramble on until I have enough text and then paste the Latin gibberish which is standard graphic designer fill copy. Who knows why? Don’t ask! Some things just are, that’s all.

This is very important! Pay attention!

Pictures are nice. People LOVE to look at pictures. There are lots of ways to put pictures in. Maybe I should do that bit though. It gets complicated quickly.

There are featured images, inline images, linked images, galleries of images, and then there are linked documents and links to other sites. Oh jeez, I have to teach you how to make links? Oh hell, I need a nap. You figure it out.

Just kidding. But I just realized I can’t give a complete lesson in how to build a web page post in one article like this. Do your best, and if you get into trouble, kneel down and pray for guidance. Ok, sure, email me. I’ll walk you through it.

Have fun!
