Letter: Rescind Park Sale

It would be a travesty if Nova Scotians lose the fight to save Owls Head Provincial Park. There was no public consultation or notice before the government signed the Letter of Offer to sell Owls Head Provincial Park, which is alarming, to say the least. Furthermore, former MLA Michel Samson and former Premier Stephen McNeil are working for Cox and Palmer, the same law firm that is representing the buyer. Premier Houston has an opportunity to do things differently.

Letter: Golf Rebuttal

It seems that “the lady doth protest too much.”Gloria McCluskey (“Out of bounds” letter, Aug. 31) was not the subject of my Aug. 19 letter, but by assuming things about me, she has made herself the subject of this one.

My factual letter about the proposed golf course, to be built on a 10,000-year old ecosystem, was met with a personal attack on my lack of knowledge about golf, my inability to see the benefit of golf and a delirious claim that I cast aspersions on her beloved home course. She assumed things about me without knowing anything about my background. But why let facts get in the way of a good story?

Letter: Fairway Mirage

Former Dartmouth mayor Gloria McCluskey’s “Golf is good” letter on Aug. 7 perpetuates the myth that golf on our shore will solve all the problems faced by local residents.

On the same day her letter was published, I was one of several speakers at a rally to stop the steal of Owls Head. Coincidentally, I outlined many of the fallacies of her argument and those that have been put forward by representatives of Lighthouse Links, one of whom is Anthony Turner, her nephew.

Letter: Golf On Downswing

A good many column inches of your Aug. 7 letters to the editor were, skillfully, devoted to the betrayal of Nova Scotians by their Liberal government over Owls Head, and their specious claim to have followed the rules.

Only one letter supported the so-called development prospects for the Eastern Shore that are being dangled in front of the residents, like a juicy worm on the end of a large hook.

However, one has to question whether the claimed benefits are worth the loss of pristine habitat to what will be, essentially, high-end residential development.

Letter: Wasting people’s time

It’s a steal! And no, I am not talking about the secret backroom deal to sell Owls Head Provincial Park, all 750 acres and five miles of coastline for less than the cost of an average Nova Scotia home.

I mean the robbing of that most precious finite resource: our time! How many volunteer hours have been spent trying to save something that we thought was already saved? Owls Head Provincial Park was slated to be protected as site No. 694 of the Parks and Protected Areas Plan because of the well-documented scientific evidence of its high ecological and conservation value.

Letter: Saving Owls Head Provincial Park An Issue for All

When reporter Michael Gorman of CBC News broke the story it sparked a firestorm of opposition.

Thanks to a whistle blower, we now know that the government removed Owls Head Provincial Park from the list of lands awaiting legal protection, specifically to enter into a Letter of Offer with the Americans (working as Lighthouse Links Development Company). All of this was done without public knowledge or consultation.

LETTERS — Owls Head saga true to Nova Scotia motto: No One Is Responsible And No One Is Accountable

The recent ruling by Justice Christa M. Brothers of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court on the proposed Owls Head golf course sweet deal exposes more smoke and mirrors than any logical voter would imagine.

Under the legislative fine print, The Tartan Sultan and The Pretender did nothing wrong! Wow! Why, there was no real legal protection at all!

Silly voters! Didn’t they remember Nova Scotia’s motto: NOIRANOIA — No One Is Responsible And No One Is Accountable?

The under-the-table aspect of this bothers me. The lack of respect for the voters of Nova Scotia — well, that’s no surprise to me at all.
