“Beckwith Gilbert, director and president of Lighthouse Links, has been acquiring real estate in Little Harbour on the Eastern Shore that are referenced in the Lighthouse Links proposal as part of the larger plans for the area,” said Sydnee McKay, founder of the the grassroots Facebook group, Save Little Harbour/Owls Head from Becoming a Golf Course.
“Owls Head provincial park should be protected for the enjoyment of all Nova Scotians, not ground into sand, like Lighthouse Links proposes to do,” McKay said.
… The couple have owned property in the Eastern Shore community of Little Harbour for some 18 years. Between 2003 and 2009, they registered more than 20 properties in the area in their names.
… Gilbert completed an application for the use of Crown land on Sept. 23, 2016. Less than three years later, Iain Rankin, then Lands and Forestry minister, made the decision to delist the land and to enter into sale negotiations with Lighthouse Links.
The Lighthouse draft plan says the combined Crown and Gilbert properties would provide for 12 kilometres of oceanfront land, “which would permit every hole to be either on the ocean or to have a spectacular ocean view.”
