The men who would be premier crossed verbal swords in a virtual roundtable debate on Thursday, although it turned out to be more of a gentlemanly joust than a brutal melee.

ENVIRONMENT

The roundtable concluded with questions submitted from the public, with the environment being a big topic.

The leaders were asked about their positions on Northern Pulp and Rankin was targeted for his government’s decision to allow a golf developer to purchase land in Owls Head.

Houston stressed that it’s important for the standards to be set that the public can trust with policies and processes that follow suit.

Rankin jumped on that to defend the Owls Head decision, saying that it was made with consultation with residents and followed the proper processes.
