We thank Darlene for her participation at the Save Owls Head Rally, providing this statement for the website, and for all of her efforts to protect the lands of Nova Scotia. Wela’lin.

Once you change the natural habitat for money, you cannot un-change the damage to Mother Earth. For our children, our grandchildren there must be something living, loving, and enjoyable for all people.

[Owls Head is] a privatized sale, even though this is unceded, unsurrendered lands… Miꞌkmaꞌki.

We are willing to protect Mother Earth instead of using it for the pleasure of CORPORATE gain and prestige.

There needs to be a question on “is that land sacred in any way?”

How is the government doing deals by clearing crown lands? Money. And I’d like to remind PREMIER McNEIL: This is not his privilege to disrespect the lands that my Ancestors have respected. Where is consultation [with the Mi’kmaq people]?

HE DOES NOT OWN MI’KMA’KI AND IF HE THINKS HE DOES… SHOW ME THE DEED.

Darlene Gilbert, Mi’kmaw Grandmother
